Jomatu Wiki: How to add a new website

Introduction

Before you can edit a website, you need to let Jomatu know about it. Jomatu needs to know where to find the website, and needs to have access to it through what's called FTP*, in order to allow you to change it.

If you set up your website hosting yourself, then your web hosting company would have sent you the FTP details. If your website hosting is provided by someone else (typically your web designer), then they should be able to provide you with these details instead†. Note: If you're unable, for whatever reason, to get these details, then please raise a support ticket (log in required); we'll try to help you locate them.

So let's begin. Firstly, make sure you're logged into your Jomatu Administrator's account and you're at the Jomatu Main Menu. There are now four simple steps to follow.

Step 1: Click on the 'Manage Websites' link or icon

Add a New Website - Step One

This takes you to the 'Manage Websites' page.

Step 2: Click on the 'Manage Websites' link or icon

Before you add a new website, the list of 'managed websites' will be empty. To add a new website, click the 'Add new website' link or icon.

Add a New Website - Step Two

This takes us to the 'Add new website' page.

Step 3: Fill in the form with your website details

Most of the form fields are self-explanatory. Some form fields have default settings which are usually correct (these can of course be changed if required). The last form field is discussed next.

The 'Backup File Retention' form field

Every time you edit a web page through Jomatu, a backup copy is taken of that web page. The 'Backup File Retention' form field specifies how long to keep these copies.

Add a New Website - Step Three

When you click the 'Add new domain' button, and assuming that no errors have occurred, you will be returned to the 'Manage Websites' page.

Step 4: Check that your website is in the 'managed websites' list

Your website should now appear in the 'Your managed websites' list.

Add a New Website - Step Four

You can perform the following actions from this list of managed websites:

From here, to return to the Jomatu Main Menu, click one of the 'Main Menu' links found near the top of the page.

This completes the 'How to add a new website' documentation.

* FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol.

† If they refuse to give you these, you might like to consider hosting with with Jomatu instead! Low-cost hosting with Jomatu could save you money. Visit our hosting page for more details.
